About the position

The Paramedic at CHI Saint Joseph Health is responsible for providing emergency medical care to patients in the emergency department. This role involves collaboration with a comprehensive care team, including RNs, physicians, and ancillary staff, to ensure quality care and patient support. The Paramedic will perform critical interventions, document patient care, and promote patient independence through education and emotional support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency medical care under physician oversight following the National EMS Scope of Practice Model.
  • Administer BLS, PALS, ACLS, and critical care interventions as directed by the attending physician.
  • Perform triage, assessments, interventions, and patient education as needed.
  • Document patient care services in a timely manner in patient and department records.
  • Promote patient independence by establishing rapport and teaching self-care skills.
  • Provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients.
  • Identify self as a licensed paramedic while operating.
  • Adhere to all CHI Saint Joseph Health policies, protocols, procedures, and regulations.
  • Pursue professional growth and development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate from a nationally/state approved accrediting paramedic program.
  • Unrestricted Kentucky Paramedic License.
  • Active BLS, ACLS, PALS American Heart Association Certifications.
  • 2 years of experience as a paramedic in high volume patient care services, approved Critical Care endorsement, or previous aeromedical/clinical ER experience.
  • Demonstrated computer management skills and considerable knowledge of computer applications.
  • Effective communication skills in both verbal and written formats.
  • Ability to analyze problems and identify causes and consequences.
