About the position

The Paraprofessional / Academic Support position at Austin Catholic High School is designed to assist students, faculty, and staff in fostering an environment conducive to student success. The role involves working closely with the Assistant Principal and Counselor to provide educational support and reinforce learning strategies for students, particularly in managing their time and study skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees study hall periods and students using study commons for online courses.
  • Maintains study commons as an inviting and active place for students to be before, during, and after school.
  • Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of materials or skills introduced by classroom teachers.
  • Collaborates with seminar teachers and counselors to enhance the learning process, focusing on time management and study skills.
  • Assists classroom teachers in developing strategies to reinforce learning materials based on individual student needs.
  • Monitors work and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by classroom teachers.
  • Alerts certified staff to any issues or special information regarding individual students.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and maintains confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Supports members of the school's academic council.
  • Keeps records of daily interactions with students.

Requirements

  • Minimum associate's degree.
  • 1-3 years' experience working or volunteering in a school setting.
  • Ability to multitask and manage various subject matters and deadlines.
  • Desire to assist students.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.
  • Protecting God's Children Certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working with high school students and students with learning disabilities.
