About the position

The Paraprofessional Accounting Tutor position is designed to support students in developing effective learning strategies and becoming self-regulated learners, specifically in the field of accounting. The tutor will work closely with students in both one-on-one and group settings, fostering independent learning and critical thinking skills while adhering to the tutoring center's protocols and expectations.

Responsibilities

• Foster the development of independent, intentional learners
• Help students understand and use effective learning strategies
• Provide tutor assistance in accounting in one-on-one and group settings
• Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty
• Attend training activities to comply with certification requirements
• Collaborate with the Director of Learning Support Systems on workshops
• Adhere to tutoring center protocol and expectations
• Promote critical thinking and problem solving
• Help identify and fill learning gaps with discipline-specific content
• Visit classrooms to introduce students to tutoring services
• Assist with other learning assistance projects as assigned

Requirements

• Associates or working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
• Technology savvy
• Experience working with diverse college populations

Nice-to-haves

• Two years of tutoring experience in accounting
• Teaching experience in accounting in grades 9-12 or at the community college level
