About the position

The Paraprofessional position at Meelo Education is designed for individuals who are passionate about supporting students with special needs. This full-time role involves providing in-school instruction, care, and supervision under the guidance of special education teachers. The position requires proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) to assist in communication and instruction, ensuring that students receive the education and care they deserve.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the instruction of individual and small groups of students, reinforcing lessons and instructions.
• Translate IEP messages and communications in American Sign Language.
• Float between classrooms and cases, assisting with ASL understanding.
• Support speech and physical therapists, psychologists, and other specialists with physical development activities.
• Assist the teacher with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through various activities.
• Attend IEP meetings to provide and obtain information about students.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (AA degree is a plus).
• Childcare experience (nanny, babysitter, mentor, tutor, coach, counselor).
• Certified/fluent in American Sign Language.
• Reliable car, proof of auto insurance, and valid driver's license required.
• A desire to help others gain valuable life skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with children or adults with special needs or disabilities.
• Experience applying ABA concepts in the past.
• RBT Certification (not mandatory).
