About the position
The Paraprofessional position at Lowell Public Schools is a long-term substitute role focused on supporting classroom teachers in delivering developmentally appropriate activities for K-2 students, including those with special needs and English Language Learners (ELL). The role involves assisting with various classroom routines and ensuring a safe and healthy environment for children.
Responsibilities
- Assist classroom teacher in providing developmentally appropriate activities for students.
- Implement concrete learning activities that meet the varied developmental needs of students with and without special needs.
- Work with ELL students to support their learning.
- Assist in getting students into and out of buildings and classrooms, which may include lifting and carrying students.
- Support the teacher during activities such as field trips and emergency drills.
- Help with classroom routines such as snack time, washing dishes, clean-up, and bathroom activities.
- Maintain a healthy and safe environment for children.
- Perform other tasks and assume responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.
- For health positions, assist with feeding, changing diapers, and toileting children.
Requirements
- Successfully passed the Paraprofessional test, OR 48 college credits or more, OR a Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
- Experience with the appropriate age group.
