Paraprofessional-ESS Mild/Moderate

About the position

The Paraprofessional - ESS Mild/Moderate role is designed to provide essential support to the instructional program within assigned classrooms, specifically for special needs students. This position involves assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of these students, implementing instructional plans, monitoring behavior, and attending IEP meetings to ensure a conducive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher.
• Administers tests, homework, and make-up work to support teachers.
• Provides immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a healthcare professional.
• Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey job-related information.
• Documents students' daily activities for record-keeping purposes.
• Evaluates situations involving staff, students, and parents to provide referrals for resolution.
• Maintains instructional materials and records to ensure availability and compliance.
• Models appropriate social behavior for students in a culturally sensitive manner.
• Monitors students' daily schedules and behavior plans to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Monitors students during assigned periods in various school environments.
• Provides instruction to students in individual and group activities under the supervision of the assigned teacher.
• Remains with students at all times to ensure their safety and de-escalate situations when necessary.
• Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
• Assists medically fragile or physically disabled students with personal hygiene.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Proof of MMR Immunization & Hepatitis B Clearance required.
• Three (3) Professional References required.
• IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
• Job-related experience is desired.
• Targeted, job-related education with study in a relevant area is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Associate degree preferred or passing score on an ADE-approved assessment.
