About the position

The Paraprofessional II Special Education position at Webber Middle School is a long-term substitute role focused on providing instructional and physical support to students with significant support needs. The role involves assisting the General Classroom or Special Education Teacher in implementing educational programs, supporting students' personal care and social skills, and ensuring that students can fully participate in classroom activities. This position requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment for students with various disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the General Classroom or Special Education Teacher with implementing instruction and reinforcing learning skills in individual or small groups.
  • Assist students with personal care, social skills, and self-awareness, including health and hygiene tasks.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing materials, administering tests, grading, and maintaining student records.
  • Monitor students during classroom activities, breaks, and transitions, reinforcing discipline procedures.
  • Assist the Teacher and/or administration with special projects as needed.
  • Attend work punctually and participate in required meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of related experience preferred, especially working with special needs students.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Completion of Special Education Paraprofessional Academy classes within the first two years of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual oral and written communication skills may be preferred.
  • Experience with alternative communication techniques such as sign language or voice-activated systems.
