About the position

The Paraprofessional for Special Education Pre-K supports teachers in providing effective educational opportunities for Pre-K aged students with disabilities. This role involves assisting in instructional activities, data collection, and meeting the unique needs of students in various educational settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to identified Pre-K students with disabilities in special education classrooms and community early learning centers.
  • Leads instructional activities prepared by the teacher with small groups and individual students.
  • Assists with preparation of instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Collects data and administers informal assessments to monitor student progress.
  • Performs special duties to meet the individual needs of Pre-K students with disabilities, including lifting, toileting assistance, and food preparation.
  • Assists with routine record keeping and classroom management processes.
  • Monitors students during meal and rest times, and assists with arrival and dismissal routines.

Requirements

  • Hold an associate's degree or higher from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution, or
  • Completed two years of college coursework with a grade of 'C' or better, or
  • Passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Paraprofessional experience serving school-age children is desirable.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual or bicultural experience is preferred for certain positions.
  • Training or experience in special needs populations, such as first aid and behavior management.
