About the position

The Paraprofessional Technician at Gilbert Public Schools plays a crucial role in supporting students with special needs in both regular and special education classrooms. This position involves assisting with supervision, instruction, and adapting materials to ensure that all students can participate in classroom activities. The technician works under the guidance of certified teachers and therapists to implement educational and behavioral plans, maintain records, and create a safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist special education students one-on-one with classroom and daily living skills.
  • Support the implementation of positive behavior plans to address specific student issues.
  • Adapt classroom activities and materials under the direction of the teacher.
  • Confer with teachers to evaluate student progress and implement IEP objectives.
  • Provide carry-over of therapy routines and strategies as directed by therapists.
  • Support academic instruction for individuals or small groups to meet learning goals.
  • Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students.
  • Maintain instructional materials and student records to ensure availability and reliability.
  • Monitor special education students during various activities to ensure a safe environment.
  • Participate in recording and reporting data for the MIPS program.
  • Perform record keeping and clerical functions to support the teacher.
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Assist other personnel as required to support their work activities.
  • Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey job-related information.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • CPR Certification.
  • First Aid Certification.
  • Teaching Certification (preferred).
  • Basic math skills including calculations using fractions, percent, and ratios.
  • Classroom experience, particularly with special education students.
