About the position

The Paraprofessional for the Therapy Day Program (TDP) plays a crucial role in supporting students with significant behavioral development needs under the supervision of a teacher and school leadership. This position focuses on providing emotional, behavioral, and instructional support to help students engage in learning activities and work towards their educational goals. The paraprofessional is responsible for creating a safe environment, implementing behavior modification techniques, and collaborating with the Therapy Day Program team to facilitate student success.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher in providing emotional, behavioral, and instructional support to students.
  • Work directly with students in small groups or one-on-one to provide individualized behavior modification guidance based on their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Conduct line-of-sight supervision of student behavior and impart self-management skills.
  • Support the teacher in implementing the D51 Learning Model by organizing lesson materials and assisting with various academic subjects.
  • Monitor student behaviors and social responsiveness in different environments, including playgrounds and cafeterias.
  • Collaborate with the Therapy Day Program psychologist/counselor to help students cope with trauma and implement behavior management techniques.
  • Communicate daily with the assigned teacher and other staff about individual student needs and progress.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training programs, and assist with activities outside the classroom.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum two years of experience working with pre-adolescent children required; preference for prior school district experience.
  • Direct experience or knowledge of students with significant disabilities preferred.
  • Bilingual oral and written skills in English/Spanish are desirable.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license or other form of identification required.
  • Successful passing of a criminal background check required at the time of hire.
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds; lift test required at the time of hire and renewed every three years.
  • Quality Behavioral Solutions certification (QBS) must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • CPR and AED certification required within 60 days of hire.
