About the position

The Paraprofessional position at Clayton County Public Schools involves providing support to classroom teachers and assisting students in various educational settings. This role is essential for enhancing the learning experience of students, particularly in special education, bilingual, and remedial programs. The Paraprofessional will work under the supervision of the Principal or designee and is responsible for a range of tasks that facilitate effective teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

• Provides support to selected students in resource, self-contained, regular classroom and/or in school suspension settings.
• Conducts small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans developed by the teacher.
• Provides language translation services as needed.
• Assists with preparation of materials for instruction, including copying, grading, and constructing bulletin boards.
• Performs special duties to meet the unique needs of specific student populations, such as lifting physically disabled students and providing personal hygiene assistance.
• Types and processes correspondence, reports, orders, and catalog cards.
• Operates the computerized circulation system and records.
• Files catalog cards and assists in inventory of materials and equipment.
• Assumes responsibility for the operation of the media center and supervision of students in the absence of the media specialist.
• Assists with routine record keeping and school-wide supervision, such as loading/unloading buses.
• Performs all other duties as assigned to support educational services.

Requirements

• Must hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution, or
• Have completed two years of college coursework (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) with a grade of 'C' or better, or
• Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Paraprofessional experience serving school-age children is desirable.
• Bilingual or bicultural experience is required for certain positions.
• Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License.
