About the position

The Pari-Mutuel Operations Specialist at the Florida Gaming Control Commission plays a crucial role in enhancing the administrative efficiency and operational effectiveness of the Commission. This position involves processing occupational license applications, providing customer service, and assisting with the coordination of activities related to the state test/detention barn during pari-mutuel racing events. The specialist will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with Florida gaming statutes and maintain high standards of service and operational integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with processing occupational license applications and fingerprinting applicants using electronic equipment.
  • Process license transfers, upgrades, and renewals in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to facility personnel, licensing applicants, and the public.
  • Observe, record, and report violations, complaints, and incidents related to racing and gaming.
  • Assist in coordinating functions of the state test/detention barn during racing performances.
  • Document activities related to the collection and shipment of urine and blood samples from horses.
  • Place timely orders for supplies and equipment for efficient Detention Barn operations.
  • Respond to unscheduled assignments and meet deadlines as required.
  • Complete all other duties assigned by the employer.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Florida Statutes, rules, policies, and procedures related to the pari-mutuel industry.
  • Ability to collect, record, and verify data related to the pari-mutuel industry.
  • Proficiency in using technology, including computer software and data systems.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Adaptability to changing environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the Florida regulated thoroughbred industry or issuing occupational licenses.
  • Experience applying Florida Statutes, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Versa, OnBase, and the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit Post Race Sample Collection Database.
