About the position

The Parish Catechetical Leader is responsible for overseeing the parish's catechetical ministry, which includes planning, developing, and evaluating formation programs for all age groups. This role involves coordinating and training catechists and volunteers, managing sacramental preparation, and ensuring that the parish's educational offerings align with Church teachings. The leader will also communicate with parishioners and staff, stay updated on catechetical trends, and manage administrative functions related to the ministry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop goals, objectives, and implement strategies for a comprehensive catechetical program that serves adults through Pre-K, including preparation for Sacraments of Initiation, Reconciliation, and Marriage.
  • Develop and implement a coherent and unified curriculum and catechetical plan for the parish, in conjunction with the pastor and parish staff.
  • Direct and oversee various catechetical programs that support a comprehensive, systematic, lifelong, and ongoing discipleship in the Catholic faith.
  • Responsible for the recruitment and training of catechists/volunteers and ensures compliance with diocesan Safe Environment and certification requirements.
  • Oversee and direct the work of the formation team and develop a yearly schedule for all programs.
  • Maintain Sacramental records, program registrations, evaluations, and other pertinent data.
  • Evaluate parish formation programming and make recommendations to the pastor.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend primary and supplemental catechetical resources and materials.
  • Utilize various media to communicate and market catechetical programming and best practices.
  • Prepare annual budget for review by the pastor and oversee expenditures.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Theology, pastoral studies, religious education or a related field preferred.
  • At least five years of ministry experience in a parish or diocesan position.
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
  • Knowledge of Catholic doctrine and beliefs as presented in relevant ecclesial documents.
  • Knowledge of the catechumenate process and Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults.
  • Ability to assess needs and develop catechetical processes and programs.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or another language is a plus.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a competitive salary range of $50.9K - $64.5K per year.
