About the position

The Park Police Officer position with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation involves law enforcement duties aimed at protecting the state's natural and historic treasures. Officers will undergo a traineeship that includes a six-month residential police academy followed by field training. Responsibilities

• Protect and serve the public in state parks and historic sites.
• Enforce laws and regulations related to park operations.
• Conduct patrols and respond to emergencies within park areas.

• Provide assistance and information to park visitors.
• Complete required training and maintain certifications.

Requirements

• Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of hire.
• Must not have passed the 35th birthday by October 25, 2025, unless military duty applies.
• Minimum of 60 college credit hours completed by June 30, 2025, with waivers for veterans.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and New York State resident at the time of appointment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license for New York State.
