About the position

The Park Ranger 1-2 position at Chemin-a-Haut State Park in Bastrop, Louisiana, is responsible for enforcing state laws and regulations within the park, ensuring visitor safety, and providing assistance to park guests. This entry-level role involves law enforcement duties, customer service, administrative support, training, and participation in park events. The position is part of a Career Progression Group, allowing for advancement to Park Ranger 2 based on qualifications and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce federal, state, and local laws and park rules and regulations to protect park visitors.
  • Perform emergency duties to safeguard human life, government property, and natural features.
  • Investigate incidents and complaints such as vandalism, accidents, and trespassing within park boundaries.
  • Testify in court as required and collaborate with law enforcement agencies for arrests and prosecutions.
  • Patrol and inspect the park by vehicle, foot, bicycle, and boat to provide security.
  • Educate visitors on respecting natural resources and park regulations.
  • Assist overnight guests with customer service duties and provide tourism information.
  • Maintain records and reports associated with park operations and law enforcement duties.
  • Participate in required training and assist in the development of Ranger 1's for advancement to Ranger 2.
  • Work special events and details in conjunction with various agencies.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
  • Willingness and ability to carry firearms.
  • Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • No physical disabilities that would prevent functioning as a law enforcement officer.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in law enforcement or park management is preferred but not required.
