About the position

The Park Ranger 1 position at Luckiamute State Natural Area is a permanent role focused on protecting, maintaining, and operating state park lands and resources. The ranger will lead teams, engage with visitors, and ensure the preservation of Oregon's natural beauty while providing excellent customer service. This role involves a variety of tasks including maintenance, rule enforcement, and educational programming, all aimed at enhancing the visitor experience in one of Oregon's scenic parks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks on park lands, structures, and facilities.
  • Oversee visitor services and enforce park rules and regulations.
  • Conduct educational programs and interpretative presentations for visitors.
  • Manage small to medium size maintenance projects.
  • Assist with the safe use of tools and equipment for park maintenance.
  • Plan and execute special events and activities within the park.

Requirements

  • Two years of visitor services experience or maintenance experience, or an Associate's degree in a related field with six months of experience.
  • Experience in giving direction to teams and individuals in a park setting.
  • Knowledge of safe tool and equipment use for maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to perform basic plumbing, carpentry, and grounds keeping tasks.
  • Experience in managing visitor services and processing reservations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in remote satellite parks in riverine environments.
  • Experience in developing and delivering interpretative presentations on natural, cultural, or historic features.
