About The Position

The County of Riverside is seeking a Park Ranger I to support the Lake Skinner Recreation Area in Temecula. This entry-level position involves maintaining public safety, enforcing park regulations, and assisting with various park operations. The role includes a variety of tasks such as patrolling, maintenance, and customer service, with opportunities for training and advancement to Park Ranger II. The ideal candidate will have experience in customer service and a background in parks or open-space management.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience interacting with the public, including conflict resolution and customer service.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Within 12 months of employment, obtain valid certificates in First Aid, CPR/AED, and Basic Water Rescue.
  • Completion of PC 832 training.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in boating patrol.
  • College coursework in public administration, park or recreation management, forestry, botany, environmental science, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Explain park policies, rules, regulations, and County ordinances to visitors.
  • Oversee the registration of park visitors, collection of fees, issuance of camping permits, and assignment of camping areas.
  • Participate in custodial duties and maintenance of park structures and grounds.
  • Answer public inquiries and complaints regarding park operations and maintenance.
  • Provide assistance in emergency situations and maintain fire prevention standards.
  • Patrol park areas to promote a congenial atmosphere and resolve issues.
  • Issue warnings and citations for non-compliance with park regulations.
  • Patrol open-space and wildlife habitat reserves to ensure compliance with laws and ordinances.
  • Plan and participate in habitat creation and restoration activities.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
