About the position

This position is located in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, specifically within the Visitor and Resource Protection Division. The role involves managing a complex protection operation that includes law enforcement, emergency medical services, search and rescue operations, and fire operations. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing various programs and ensuring the safety and protection of visitors and resources in a rugged outdoor environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex protection operation involving visitor services, law enforcement, criminal investigations, emergency medical services, search and rescue operations, structural and wildland fire operations, and aviation operations.
  • Provide policy guidance and direction on visitor and resource protection program activities for the assigned district.
  • Supervise seasonal, temporary, permanent, and volunteer personnel, ensuring compliance with Equal Opportunity and Employee Relations policies.
  • Develop and maintain skills for operating an ambulance, high-performance patrol boats, and 4x4 vehicles in challenging terrains.
  • Conduct investigations of criminal activity and ensure compliance with law enforcement policies.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements for males.
  • Possess a valid Type 1 Law Enforcement Commission or be able to obtain one by the closing date of the announcement.
  • At least three years of substantial documented experience in a primary law enforcement position or equivalent experience.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug testing, and be free of any domestic violence convictions.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mutual aid agreements and cooperative agreements.
  • Certification in emergency medical services (EMT) or equivalent.
  • Experience in managing diverse staff and conducting training.
