About the position
The Park Ranger - Seasonal position involves assisting Park Managers in protecting park patrons and property. Rangers explain park rules, patrol assigned areas, respond to inquiries, and provide information about natural resources and recreational activities. This role is seasonal, typically from late May to Labor Day, and requires a commitment to maintaining safety and compliance within the park environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist Park Managers in protecting park patrons and property.
- Explain park and recreation rules and regulations to patrons.
- Seek voluntary compliance with park rules.
- Patrol assigned areas including campgrounds, beaches, and trails.
- Respond to patron inquiries and provide information on natural resources and facilities.
- Inform patrons about recreational activities and the condition of trails.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old at the time of appointment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Valid NYS Driver's License when required to drive state vehicles.
- Meet certain physical and medical requirements.
- Good moral character and successful completion of a background investigation.
- Completion of 24 hours of Security Guard training provided by NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation.
- Basic computer and smartphone skills are necessary.
- Possess a valid NYS issued ID.
