About The Position

The Park Ranger position at Blue Spring State Park involves resource management, visitor services, maintenance, and protection of the park's natural and cultural resources. The role is essential for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of visitors while maintaining the ecological integrity of the park. The ranger will engage with the public, provide educational programs, and manage various park operations.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • Successful completion of background/fingerprint check
  • Knowledge of basic prescribed/wildfire concepts
  • Skill in utilizing motor vehicles and using various hand tools, small engines, and power tools
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to perform physical labor and lift 40 pounds
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in resource management
  • Knowledge of ecological restoration techniques
  • Experience in public relations or customer service

Responsibilities

  • Explain facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment, and education.
  • Meet visitors, answer questions, provide information and directions.
  • Resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations.
  • Provide natural and cultural history interpretive programs and services via tours, walks, and campfire programs.
  • Implement ecological burning plans for fire type plant communities.
  • Recognize communities, control burning techniques, and maintain fire lanes.
  • Implement vegetation and wildfire management plans.
  • Recognize communities and maintain optimum species control via natural and chemical means.
  • Implement site restoration projects such as reforestation and erosion control.
  • Implement water resource management plans.
  • Construct, maintain, and repair small buildings, fences, trails, service roads, fire lanes, boardwalks, campsites, picnic sites, boat ramps, docks, and other necessary facilities.
  • Maintain cleanliness of grounds and facilities.
  • Prepare forms and reports on a wide range of subjects including fees, receipts, visitor use, and wildlife sightings.
  • Operate radio equipment, personal computers, and maintain logs.
  • Ensure park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical, and archaeological facilities and resources.
