Park Ranger

About the position

The Park Ranger position at the City of Laguna Beach Police Department is a full-time role focused on community engagement and enforcement of local ordinances in parks, beaches, and trails. As a member of the Neighborhood Enhancement Team, the Park Ranger will interact with residents and visitors, addressing quality of life issues and promoting safety. This role requires strong decision-making skills, physical fitness, and the ability to manage stress effectively while ensuring compliance with city, county, and state regulations.

Responsibilities

• Engage with residents, business owners, and visitors in city streets, parks, beaches, and trails.
• Advise the public on City, County, and State ordinances related to littering, smoking in public, and other disturbances.
• Implement neighborhood enhancement goals through community engagement and problem-solving.
• Perform enforcement actions as a recognized peace officer.
• Take on special duty assignments as required.

Requirements

• Must be at least 20 years of age.
• High school graduation or possession of a General Education Diploma is required.
• Related college-level coursework or a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is highly desirable.
• Previous law enforcement experience or extensive public contact experience is highly desirable.
• Valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
• Graduation from a California Basic Course Police Academy Modular Level I, II or III is highly desirable.
• Possession of PC 832 certification is highly desirable.
