The Park Ranger position at the R3-Whittlesey Creek National Wildlife Refuge in Ashland, Wisconsin, is a full-time role focused on providing information and guidance to visitors, ensuring the safety and cleanliness of facilities, and supporting volunteer programs. The role requires interaction with the public and collaboration with various partners to promote conservation efforts and educational programs.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer inquiries for information, direction, and guidance.
  • Monitor facilities for safety, cleanliness, and accessibility, performing routine maintenance as needed.
  • Assist in administering the volunteer program by recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers.
  • Prepare press releases to inform the public about refuge programs and activities.
  • Collaborate with the Refuge Manager to ensure compliance with service standards in communication media production.
  • Work with partners to establish and maintain local youth and urban conservation programs.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • One year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 in the Federal service, or two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree, or a combination of specialized experience and graduate education that equals 100% of the total requirement.
  • Possess and maintain a valid state driver's license during tenure.
  • Ability to complete a probationary period if required.

  • Experience in wildlife-dependent recreation activities.
  • Knowledge of conservation and natural resource management principles.
  • Skills in written and graphic communications.
