About the position

The Park Services Specialist position at Manatee Springs State Park involves moderately independent work focused on volunteer coordination, visitor services, resource management, maintenance, administration, and protection of the park's natural resources. The role supports the mission of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection by enhancing community partnerships and providing recreational opportunities while ensuring the preservation of Florida's ecosystems.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the park's volunteer and manpower augmentation program.
  • Act as liaison between volunteers and park administration.
  • Monitor and define suitable park volunteer needs and coordinate volunteer placement.
  • Plan and conduct volunteer meetings, workshops, and orientation sessions.
  • Assist park management in coordinating and overseeing Citizen Support Organizations.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and provide program analysis to park management on Citizen Support Organizations operations.
  • Design, plan, and conduct training activities and programs for volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain volunteer job descriptions, procedural manuals, personnel records, and evaluations.
  • Plan and oversee all volunteer schedules and track volunteer hours.
  • Prepare appropriate reports and coordinate awards programs.
  • Observe, maintain, and protect the natural and cultural resources of the parks.
  • Participate in vegetative and wildlife management plans and activities.
  • Collect and record resource management data and submit related reports.
  • Conduct community outreach activities to expand public understanding of the Florida Park Service.
  • Conduct environmental education programs and interpretive programs.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleanliness, and repairs to park facilities.
  • Complete time entry, data entry, and various reports as assigned.
  • Coordinate training of volunteers to promote a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communications.
  • Knowledge of Florida ecosystems and resource management techniques.
  • Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in volunteer coordination and management.
  • Familiarity with Florida's natural resources and ecosystems.
  • Experience in conducting training and educational programs.
