About the position

The City of Yakima Parks and Recreation Division is looking for someone experienced in irrigation maintenance and repair to join the parks maintenance team! This is a permanent seasonal position scheduled to work March through November 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM (summer 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM). This position may be required to work weekends and will begin work on March 1st. Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of skilled care and maintenance tasks in the grooming, operations, construction, repair and beautification of city properties and facilities.
  • Conduct grounds/park maintenance, planting, weeding, pruning, mowing, and fertilizing.
  • Design, install, repair and maintain irrigation systems.
  • Perform carpentry, painting, metalworking, fabricating and welding, electrical wiring, repair and maintenance, and masonry.
  • Operate and maintain various hand and power tools and specialized equipment.
  • Lead and organize work for maintenance personnel, providing guidance and training.
  • Keep records of time and work accomplished.
  • Obtain estimates and quotes for services, supplies, and materials.
  • Inspect public areas to identify and remove safety hazards.
  • Troubleshoot emergencies and unexpected situations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of experience in work related to lawn, grounds or park maintenance including landscaping, construction, equipment/facility plumbing/repair, or related duties.
  • Must pass background investigation regarding aptitude, character, judgement, credit, driving record and criminal history.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • Must possess and maintain a Basic First Aid/CPR certificate within six (6) months of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Commercial driver's license (CDL) with a B endorsement.
  • Traffic Flagging Certificate.
  • Washington State Public Pesticide Operator's License.
