About the position

The Parks Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and administrative functions of Nash County's parks. This role involves supervising crews in the development and upkeep of parks, trails, recreation facilities, and athletic fields, ensuring that all work meets safety and departmental standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct crews involved in park maintenance and development.
  • Manage park facilities and infrastructure.
  • Participate in budget development and administration.
  • Hire, train, assign, and evaluate staff, including disciplinary actions.
  • Plan work projects and inspect facilities regularly.
  • Complete work order documentation and make daily assignments.
  • Participate in the maintenance and repair of recreational facilities.
  • Coordinate and assist with special events setup.
  • Oversee contracted projects as directed.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends in the Parks & Recreation profession.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation Management or a closely related field preferred.
  • 5 years of previous experience in parks and recreation management and supervision, including 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain a North Carolina ornamental pesticides public operator's license.
  • Ability to obtain a Certified Playground Safety Inspectors Certificate.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of landscape architecture and turf management practices.
  • Knowledge of construction practices.
  • Working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills.
