About the position

The Part Time School Counselor will implement a developmental and results-based school counseling program that aligns with the ASCA National Model, focusing on the academic, career, and personal/social development of students. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to promote student success and requires the ability to develop and evaluate comprehensive counseling programs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with ASCA National Model and New Mexico School Counselor Competencies.
  • Serve as a leader in the school and community to promote and support student success.
  • Maintain professional relationships and work cooperatively with administration, employees, and the community.
  • Advocate and collaborate with parents, teachers, and community leaders to support student success.
  • Develop and implement a school counseling curriculum that addresses all students' needs.
  • Facilitate individual student planning, including goal setting and decision making.
  • Assist students in understanding the importance of post-secondary education and career opportunities.
  • Provide responsive services including individual and group counseling, crisis counseling, and referrals.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret relevant data to monitor and improve student behavior and achievement.
  • Conduct in-service training for stakeholders to share school counseling expertise.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in School Counseling or Counseling with required coursework.
  • Valid New Mexico License in School Counseling.
  • Experience in a public school setting (preferred).
  • Knowledge of ASCA National Model and comprehensive school counseling programs.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain positive relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three years of experience in a public school setting.
  • Knowledge of District policies on child abuse/neglect and bullying.
  • Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques.
