About the position

The Academic Support Coach at MGH Institute of Health Professions is responsible for providing guidance and assistance to nursing students in areas such as time management, study skills, and test-taking strategies. The role aims to foster academic success and professional growth among students, helping them develop effective writing and communication skills while supporting those who are struggling academically. The position requires a strong background in nursing education and experience in academic coaching or tutoring, with a focus on creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive academic support services to students and alumni within the School of Nursing.
  • Engage in proactive communication strategies to promote academic support services.
  • Cultivate a supportive culture that prioritizes student wellness and academic success.
  • Design and implement strategies that enhance diversity and inclusion within the School of Nursing.
  • Provide instructional support, coaching, and reflective opportunities to students facing academic challenges.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean and Program Directors to assess the need for academic support and evaluate delivery methods.
  • Support students through the online orientation process, addressing pre-enrollment requirements and inquiries.
  • Develop and implement academic support plans that offer personalized support to students.
  • Provide early intervention for students demonstrating need based on readiness assessments.
  • Assist students in preparing for the NCLEX examination by leveraging expertise in content and testing strategies.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of individual and group academic support requests, generating reports as requested.
  • Partner with faculty to support students of concern and assist with accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Complete ATI training for NCLEX preparation and become familiar with vendor-provided resources.
  • Represent the School of Nursing at open houses and orientation sessions and coordinate special events for at-risk student groups.

Requirements

  • Must be a Registered Nurse eligible for licensure in Massachusetts.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field is required.
  • Strong background in nursing education and experience in academic coaching or tutoring.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing academic support programs.
  • Familiarity with NCLEX preparation resources and strategies.
