About the position

St. George Catholic School is seeking a passionate and dynamic Part-Time Art Teacher to inspire and develop the artistic abilities of students from Pre-K through 8th grade. This role is essential in fulfilling the mission of the Catholic school by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of students within the framework of the school's philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The ideal candidate will be an actively practicing Catholic who is committed to shaping compassionate, knowledgeable, and Christ-centered individuals. The Art Teacher will create a vibrant and engaging art program that encourages hands-on learning, creativity, and an appreciation for art history. The Art Teacher will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive art curriculum that meets the developmental needs of students. This includes teaching basic art skills and techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, while adapting lessons to suit the diverse learning styles and abilities of students. The teacher will create a classroom environment that encourages exploration and experimentation with various art materials and methods. Additionally, lessons on art history will be incorporated to introduce students to significant artists, movements, and cultural influences, providing context and inspiration for their own work. The position requires assessing and evaluating students' artistic development and progress, providing constructive feedback and encouragement. The Art Teacher will maintain a positive classroom culture that fosters creativity, respect, and collaboration among students. Organizing and displaying student artwork throughout the school and coordinating art shows or exhibitions to showcase students' achievements are also key responsibilities. The teacher is expected to stay current with best practices in art education and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities. This role reports directly to the principal and is integral to the school's mission and values.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience teaching art to children in a school setting (1 year preferred).
  • Valid Teaching Certification license (preferred).
  • Deep understanding of and commitment to Catholic teachings, values, and social justice principles.
  • Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
