About the position

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (ABVM) School is a Catholic elementary school dedicated to fostering critical thinking, academic achievement, responsible citizenship, and effective communication among its scholars. The school is currently seeking a Part-Time Art Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This role is pivotal in developing students' interest and abilities in creative expression through visual arts, adhering to the school's guidelines. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in nurturing students' aesthetic understandings and appreciations while discovering and developing their artistic talents. The Part-Time Art Teacher will be responsible for teaching various art forms, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history. The position requires the teacher to provide instruction that helps students develop aesthetic concepts and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art. The teacher will demonstrate various techniques in activities such as drawing and painting, and will need to have a strong understanding of the versatility of acrylic paints, including methods like dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting, and monoprinting. In addition to teaching, the Art Teacher will provide individual and small-group instruction tailored to meet the diverse needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities. The role also involves instructing students on the proper care and use of tools and equipment, organizing storage areas, and controlling the use of materials to prevent loss or abuse. Evaluating each student's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understanding is essential, as is preparing grades and planning art displays and exhibitions to showcase students' work to the school and the community. Communication with parents and school counselors regarding student progress is also a key responsibility. The teacher may be assigned additional duties by the Principal as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history.
  • Provide instruction to help students develop aesthetic concepts and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
  • Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting.
  • Understand the versatility of acrylic paints: dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting, monoprinting.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities.
  • Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Evaluate each student's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare grades.
  • Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students' work for the school and the community.
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Principal.

Requirements

  • Experience working with elementary aged students
  • Bachelors Degree or higher in Fine Arts
  • Current CA teaching credential or progress thereof
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience preferred
  • Ability to teach using technology
