About the position

The Part-Time Associate (Cashier) position at Smart & Final is crucial to the success of our store operations. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, ensuring that our shelves are stocked with fresh food, and creating a positive shopping experience for our customers. This role is based at our store located at 1243 42Nd Avenue, Oakland, California, and offers a starting rate of $16.85 per hour. In this position, you will maintain a designated store section, which includes ordering, receiving, and stocking merchandise using the proper equipment. You will ensure that pricing on merchandise is accurate, check product date codes for proper rotation, and stock shelves, end displays, floor stacks, and refrigerated/frozen cases. Additionally, you may prepare perishable products for sale and set up advertising and promotional displays. You will also review invoices and bills for accuracy and maintain sanitation standards in all areas of the store and parking lot as directed by management. As a cashier, you will operate a cash register, receive payments from customers, and process transactions, including cash and credit refunds when approved by management. You will verify customer eligibility when selling alcoholic beverages and provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance to customers regarding store and product information. When requested, you will help load customer purchases into their vehicles and perform basic bookkeeping duties, including recording lost or damaged goods and store supplies using appropriate tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a store section as assigned and may order, receive and stock merchandise using proper equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write English and interact with the general public and co-workers.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, pricing codes, shelf tags, and short correspondence.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
