About the position

The part-time Audio Recording Assistant at UMKC Conservatory plays a crucial role in supporting the recording studio by capturing various events such as concerts, recitals, and performances. This position involves both technical and creative tasks, including live sound reinforcement, audio mastering, and video recording, often requiring work during evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in capturing audio for ensemble concerts, recitals, and special events.
  • Perform live sound reinforcement, including system engineering and operation.
  • Conduct audio mastering and audio/video archiving tasks.
  • Digitize and upload archival files, ensuring proper metadata entry.
  • Set up and operate video recording equipment.
  • Edit video content, including audio layback and media exporting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience with recording and editing classical music.
  • Familiarity with Pro Tools, Davinci Resolve, and Dante audio networking.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in audio engineering or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of audio-specific training (college-level coursework or trade school).
  • An interest in classical and/or jazz music.
  • Thorough understanding of stereo microphone techniques.
