About the position

The Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success at Montana State University is dedicated to supporting students through personalized advising, tutoring, and coaching. The center aims to help students build confidence and motivation to engage in their learning journey. As part of Career Services, Career Coaches play a crucial role in guiding students to evaluate their interests and values, ultimately leading them towards meaningful and fulfilling career paths. The Student Success Advisors are integral to this process, conducting intervention and advising meetings with students, particularly those identified as 'at-risk' or those seeking assistance with time management, test-taking skills, and learning strategies. The advisors ensure that students acquire the necessary tools, resources, and guidance to develop skills that will help them define their professional goals and navigate the complexities of the 21st-century job market. In this role, Career Education Coaches will assist students in developing their professional brand through resume writing, interview preparation, and job and internship searches. They will facilitate career development curriculum delivery through one-on-one and group appointments, workshops, and classroom lectures. The coaches are responsible for ensuring service excellence and achieving program metrics while maintaining accurate client notes to improve student outcomes. Additionally, they will assist with financial literacy, arrange free tutoring, and provide referrals to appropriate campus services. Student Success Advisors will conduct both individual and group appointments, focusing on learning strategies for students referred through various programs. They will provide education on learning management through workshops and strategy clinics, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to enhance retention and degree completion. This position requires a commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment for students, helping them to navigate their educational journey effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with skills necessary to pursue their interests and aspirations.
• Facilitate the delivery of career development curriculum through one-on-one and group appointments, clinics, and classroom lectures.
• Holistically serve students in developing their professional brand through instruction in resume writing, interviewing skills, and job/internship searching.
• Ensure service excellence and soundness of practice while achieving program metrics and recording client notes to improve student outcomes.
• Help decode important information and tactics to maximize students' career exploration and professional development benefits.
• Conduct one-on-one and group appointments with students to review learning strategies for those referred to the center.
• Provide student-facing assistance and education on learning management via workshops and strategy clinics.
• Serve all students to enhance retention and degree completion in various settings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or a combination of education and/or experience from which comparable skills are acquired.
• Experience in student advising at the post-secondary level or experience with career/professional coaching.
• Demonstrated experience in program delivery with a high degree of professionalism.
• Technical competence using personal computers and various software such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
• Experience working in a fast-paced office setting.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and engage in candid conversations.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's Degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience facilitating and instructing small group workshops and classes.
• Knowledge of trends in higher education, Human Resources, and workforce development.
