About the position

The Part Time Case Manager position at Chicago Public Schools is dedicated to ensuring that students with disabilities receive high-quality instructional supports and services. This role involves acting as the local school district representative in compliance with IDEA and Section 504 regulations, coordinating evaluations, and overseeing the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans. The Case Manager will work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and external agencies to enhance the academic achievement of students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the local school district representative at all required meetings under the IDEA and as the 504 Coordinator for all meetings under Section 504.
  • Fulfill all roles and responsibilities as outlined in the ODLSS Procedural Manual.
  • Ensure compliance with all IDEA and Section 504 timelines.
  • Process and provide parental notices and consents for evaluations in the native language where feasible.
  • Send parents/guardians draft IEP materials and other relevant documents at least five school days prior to meetings.
  • Ensure interpreters are invited to IEP and 504 conferences for parents who are limited English proficient.
  • Coordinate referrals for Full and Individual Evaluations (FIE) and ensure timely completion.
  • Convene and chair IEP and 504 conferences, acting as the District Representative.
  • Utilize qualitative and quantitative data in IEP service decisions.
  • Finalize each student's IEP or 504 Plan during meetings and provide copies to parents/guardians.
  • Enter relevant student data into SSM in a timely manner.
  • Arrange special education and related services in accordance with IEPs.
  • Consult with the ODLSS District Representative regarding low-incidence services.
  • Oversee the implementation of IEPs and 504 Plans in collaboration with the principal.
  • Train and support school staff on IDEA and Section 504 requirements.
  • Assist with programming students with disabilities in accordance with their IEPs.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in special education or a Master's degree in educational administration.
  • A valid Professional Educator License (PEL) in Special Education (PK-Age 21) or School Support Personnel with a supervisory endorsement.
  • Two or more years of experience in special education.
  • Expertise in special education curriculum and service provision.
  • Knowledge of general education curriculum and federal/state laws regarding special education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated understanding of the individual needs of students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of intervention and assessment strategies for disabled and non-disabled students.
  • Familiarity with multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS or RTI).
  • Strong customer service and consensus-building skills.
