About the position

The position focuses on creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. The individual will establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customer return visits. Responsibilities include assisting in achieving sales and profit goals, monitoring quality assurance standards, and collaborating with the Murray's team and Fresh Foods department to create an engaging environment for customers. The role emphasizes embracing the customer service strategy and encouraging associates to deliver excellent service while demonstrating the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
  • Answer questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
  • Inform customers of Murray's Cheese specials.
  • Provide customers with fresh products they have ordered in the correct portion size.
  • Prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients in merchandise.
  • Check product quality to ensure freshness.
  • Review 'sell by' dates and take appropriate action.
  • Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Understand the store's layout and locate products when requested by customers.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
  • Comply with all state, county, and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and logs are kept.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs needed.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Report all safety risks, illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
  • Willing to taste cheese in accordance with company policies.

Requirements

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to participate in and complete required training.
  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence in English.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations in English.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and perform operations using American money and weight measurement.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed instructions and deal with problems involving concrete variables.
