About the position

The Part-Time Communications Associate will support the Faculty Affairs and Professional Development (FAPD) department at Indiana University by creating and managing digital content aimed at keeping over 7,000 faculty members informed about professional development opportunities and events. This role involves writing, editing, and designing content for newsletters and blog posts, as well as managing communication metrics and ensuring content accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Create and publish the FAPD newsletter every 2 weeks in partnership with the communications generalist.
  • Write a feature story/blog article and 2-3 shorter articles per issue.
  • Interview subjects for blog articles.
  • Collect and edit article submissions from departments for clarity and audience interest.
  • Maintain an up-to-date list of upcoming professional-development programs for inclusion in newsletters.
  • Create and maintain a content calendar.
  • Coordinate content reviews to ensure accuracy and engagement.
  • Edit content for style guide consistency and grammar.
  • Create graphics to support articles as needed.
  • Publish blog posts and manage mailing lists in Salesforce.
  • Support the communications generalist with targeted email creation.
  • Work closely with FAPD leaders to ensure content accuracy.
  • Document metrics about communications tactics produced.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations or related field.
  • 2 years of full-time professional experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience writing, editing, and creating graphics.
  • 2 years of experience with website, electronic newsletter, social media, and email management; content creation; and project management.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in Salesforce or similar applications for email newsletters.
  • Experience with video-production applications like Premiere Pro or Premiere Rush.
