About the position

The Part-time Cook position at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is focused on providing nutritious and appealing meals to the ARTS residential community. This role involves creating weekly menus, preparing large quantities of food for clients, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The cook will work closely with vendors and maintain operational budgets while contributing to the overall mission of enhancing the culinary experience for individuals in treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Create and follow a nutritional, weekly menu.
  • Cook and prepare large quantities of food for approximately 60 clients daily.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Food Safety Requirements by preventing cross-contamination, controlling time and temperature, cleaning and sanitizing, and following HACCP guidelines.
  • Operate and properly maintain large, commercial grade cooking equipment such as grills, slicers, deep-fat fryers, griddles, stove, oven, etc.
  • Support and adhere to University of Colorado Denver and ARTS policies/procedures, maintaining required documentation accurately and up to date.
  • Maintain contact with vendors while ensuring compliance with all University procedures and policies.
  • Order and verify food and supplies on a weekly basis, including potential pickups.
  • Ensure operational budget is followed and maintained.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Documented experience in food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Experience working in a residential addiction treatment program.
  • Experience developing and preparing menus.
  • Experience taking inventory and stocking supplies utilizing outside vendors.
  • Budget experience.
  • Documented experience operating large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, slicers, deep-fat fryers, griddles, stove, oven, etc.
  • Two years of experience in an institution or cafeteria food service industry or related area.
  • Previous experience adhering to food safety guidelines.
