About the position

The Cybersecurity Compliance Consultant at Penn State University plays a crucial role in ensuring research cybersecurity compliance and developing cybersecurity policies and standards. This position requires expertise in cybersecurity frameworks, particularly NIST 800-171, and involves advising on compliance with regulations while fostering a culture of security awareness. The consultant will collaborate with various stakeholders, including the research community and the Office of General Counsel, to implement comprehensive security programs that protect research data and intellectual property.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in programs ensuring research cybersecurity compliance and policy development.
  • Serve as an expert in cybersecurity frameworks like NIST 800-171.
  • Stay updated on emerging cybersecurity trends, risks, and best practices.
  • Advise and update the University's cybersecurity policies and standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Interact with the University's research community to coordinate cybersecurity initiatives.
  • Advise in the development and management of security programs for research data.
  • Consult with the Office of General Counsel, Ethics and Compliance, and Procurement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Business, Law, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in cybersecurity research compliance or general cybersecurity.
  • 5+ years of experience overseeing or implementing research compliance based on NIST 800-171 or similar standards.
  • Strong understanding of CMMC and DFARS-7012.
  • Experience collaborating with Institutional Review Boards or similar entities.
  • Proven ability to translate contractual cybersecurity requirements for stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Business, Law, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience working in a university environment supporting research compliance.

Benefits

  • Compensation rate of $65.00 an hour with an anticipated 10 hours a week.
