About the position

The Deputy Sheriff Senior is a part-time, fully certified Peace Officer responsible for performing various law enforcement duties within the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office. This role involves working in different divisions such as Court Operations, Field Operations, Support Operations, and Administrative Services, with potential duties in Jail Operations. The position requires a comprehensive background check and is safety-sensitive, necessitating drug testing and adherence to public safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform general law enforcement duties including responding to calls and assisting with the apprehension of suspects or inmates.
• Conduct searches for contraband and ensure proper handling of evidence.
• Testify in court and prepare necessary legal paperwork such as affidavits and reports.
• Maintain daily logs of shift activity and prepare various reports.
• Escort and transport inmates to and from various departments, courts, and appointments.
• Resolve disputes between the general public and prepare reports on crimes, violations, and accidents.
• Complete reports related to the arrest and incarceration of subjects, including searches and inventorying property.
• Issue citations and make arrests for violations of laws and ordinances.
• Analyze evidence, reports, and intelligence in the investigation of incidents and crimes.
• Maintain safety and security in various county locations including the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center and Detention Center.
• Attend daily roll call to receive briefing information and instruction.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of law enforcement experience.
• Currently Georgia P.O.S.T. Certified Peace Officer (PBLE Basic Law Enforcement Certified).
• Valid Georgia driver's license.
• Must be at least 21 years of age and a United States Citizen.
• Ability to use a computer for data entry in jail management software and report writing.

Nice-to-haves

• Law enforcement, military, or security experience highly preferred.
