About the position

The Part Time Event Audio Visual Technician role is a vital position within the Broadcast Technology and Services department at the Kia Center, primarily supporting events held at the Amway Center. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities centered around providing audio-visual (AV) support for events such as Orlando Magic and Solar Bears Hockey games, concerts, and corporate engagements. The technician will be expected to follow established protocols and procedures to ensure the successful execution of AV setups for scheduled events. The technician will be involved in the setup and strike of various event configurations, which include audio, video, lighting, and specialized systems such as the NBA Tissot Scoring System and Daktronics LED equipment. A key aspect of the role is troubleshooting different types of A/V setups and operating small audio consoles, with a preference for experience with digital consoles like Yamaha Digital Consoles O1V and QL. The technician will also execute setups for both small and large corporate conferences throughout the venue, providing technical support to various departments on game days and non-event days. Maintaining a safe and organized work environment is crucial, as is the ability to operate Creston control systems in hospitality areas. The technician will need to be proficient in both PC and Mac platforms, capable of assembling and operating portable audio systems, and managing cable installations and terminations. The role requires physical stamina, as it involves working at heights over 100 feet, operating spotlights, and performing light maintenance and repairs as needed. The technician will also be responsible for inventory management of essential equipment and reporting any equipment failures promptly. Overall, this position requires a proactive individual who can adapt to the dynamic nature of live events and is willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as dictated by the department's needs.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and strike of various event setups including areas in Audio, Video, Lighting, NBA Tissot Scoring System, Precision Time, Clear-Com/Riedel Communications and Daktronics LED equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot various types of A/V setups.
  • Operate small audio consoles and associated outboard gear from 4 to 48 channels.
  • Execute small and large corporate conference setups throughout the venue.
  • Provide technical support for various Orlando Magic game-day departments on event and non-event days.
  • Maintain safe and organized work environments at all times.
  • Operate arena Creston control systems in hospitality rooms/areas.
  • Able to operate PC and Mac platforms with video TV/projection systems.
  • Assemble and operate portable audio systems.
  • Manage and maintain source control devices and custom control systems.
  • Manage cable installation & terminate a wide range of audiovisual and data connectors.
  • Build equipment racks and dress all cabling in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work around heights over 100 FT.
  • Operate and setup spotlights and have basic knowledge of lighting equipment.
  • Record and maintain sufficient inventory of bulbs, batteries, cables, power supplies, etc.
  • Reporting any equipment failure.
  • Perform light maintenance / repair and work with vendors as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2 Year College Degree or equivalent AV work experience
  • Exhibit excellent knowledge of live audio principles, microphones and sound re-enforcement required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional AUDIO experience required
  • Demonstrate knowledge of audio and video signal flow as which would include the Broadcast Infrastructure at Kia Center preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity as it pertains to event setups and all ancillary equipment
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and be on-call as necessary based on the changing priorities of the department.
