About the position

The University of Southern Maine's Communication and Media Studies Department is seeking part-time faculty for the Spring 2025 semester to teach courses in Public Relations and Communication and Media Studies. The role involves preparing and delivering course content, engaging with students, and managing course logistics in either in-person or online formats. Faculty will be responsible for teaching specific courses, responding to student inquiries, and submitting final grades in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach courses in Public Relations and Communication and Media Studies.
  • Engage with students through electronic mail, phone calls, or in-person communications.
  • Post final course grades in a timely manner.
  • Analyze and adapt course content based on departmental needs and student feedback.
  • Utilize innovative teaching practices to enhance student learning.

Requirements

  • M.A. or M.S. in Communication, Mass Communication, Journalism, or equivalent degree.
  • 1 to 3 years of teaching experience in post-secondary education.
  • Industry experience in public relations is desirable for Public Relations courses.
  • Preferred Ph.D. in Communication, Mass Communication, or equivalent degree for Communication and Media Studies courses.

Nice-to-haves

  • Website development skills desirable.
  • Experience and commitment to working with students from diverse populations.
