About the position

The Part-Time Faculty position for FIL 124.4/124.5 Filmmaking Workshop: Concepts at Syracuse University involves teaching a three credit hour course during the Spring semester of 2025. The role focuses on introducing students to the fundamental concepts of filmmaking, including aesthetics and production techniques. The instructor will be responsible for preparing and delivering lectures, maintaining office hours, and grading assignments, all while fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach one class a week.
  • Develop and/or update a class syllabus.
  • Prepare lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meet all designated class periods.
  • Reschedule classes or obtain substitutes in case of absence due to illness or emergency.
  • Submit mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty.

Requirements

  • MFA in Film, Film Production, Film and Media Arts, Motion Pictures or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in filmmaking/film production.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusivity and diversity.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the film production process, encompassing development, post-production, and conceptual and critical aspects.
