About the position

The Part-Time Fire Inspector position at the City of Loveland involves ensuring compliance with fire code requirements and conducting inspections of various buildings and fire protection systems. Under the supervision of the Fire Marshal, the inspector will assess new constructions, modifications, and existing structures to ensure adherence to safety standards and regulations. This part-time role requires approximately 20 hours of work per week, primarily during weekdays.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of new buildings under construction and existing structures to ensure compliance with fire codes.
  • Perform inspections of fire protection systems and other relevant systems in buildings.
  • Coordinate final acceptance testing and inspections with builders, developers, and contractors.
  • Ensure fire code requirements are met for emergency vehicle access and fire/life safety standards.
  • Analyze and resolve deficiencies in final acceptance testing and inspections according to local codes and standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of fire prevention principles, fire behavior, and fire protection engineering principles.
  • Ability to utilize the International Fire and Building Codes and NFPA Standards.
  • Experience in fire inspection, fire protection systems, or fire service preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I certification preferred.
  • NIMS 100, 700 required within 6 months of hire date.
  • State of Colorado Fire Inspector I required within 12 months of hire date.
