About the position

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) Mentor at Farmsteads of New England, you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals diagnosed with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities and Acquired Brain Disorders. This position is designed for those who are intrinsically motivated, detail-oriented, and innovative, as you will be working closely with our Farmers to help them achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives. Your work will involve providing direct support services in a manner that prioritizes kindness, dignity, respect, communication, and integrity. You will assist in daily activities such as feeding and caring for animals, participating in community experiences, and helping individuals develop independence skills. This role is not just about providing care; it’s about being a superhero in the lives of those you support, creating lifelong memories, and fostering a supportive environment. In this position, you will be responsible for administering medications, maintaining accurate daily records, and ensuring a safe working environment. You will also engage in person-centered services, helping individuals discover and achieve their dreams. The role requires a fantastic sense of humor, a caring heart, and a commitment to helping others succeed. You will work flexible hours, primarily during the evening shift from 3 PM to 11 PM, and may be required to work weekends as needed. This is a part-time position with the potential for 16 to 40 hours per week, depending on your availability and the needs of our individuals and families.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize kindness, dignity, respect, communication, and integrity in all interactions.
  • Provide direct support services in a method and manner that is convenient and supportive to individuals.
  • Engage in person-centered services to help individuals discover and achieve their dreams.
  • Assist with daily living activities including cooking, cleaning, and personal care services as needed.
  • Support individuals in achieving independence goals such as financial management and job retention.
  • Administer medications as needed and maintain accurate medication logs.
  • Create and maintain accurate daily records and notes regarding individual care and support.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and adhere to all applicable regulations and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a GED or high school diploma.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to pass all required background screenings.
  • Must be 18 years or older at the time of hire.
  • U.S. Citizen or possession of necessary work authorization.
  • Personal or professional experience caring for others is a significant plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities or acquired brain disorders.
  • Certifications related to caregiving or direct support professions.
