About the position

As a Part Time Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service while managing the self-checkout area. Your primary responsibility will be to assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers, ensuring they have a smooth and efficient shopping experience. You will proactively engage with customers, recommend products and services, and ensure that transactions are completed accurately. This position requires you to be on your feet, moving throughout the checkout area, and interacting with customers to provide assistance and support. In addition to managing the self-checkout area, you will be responsible for executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise, and providing knowledgeable responses to their inquiries. You will also be expected to coach and develop other associates, ensuring they are trained in various departmental duties and sales opportunities. Your role will involve using a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, as well as providing supervision and support to the Front End Team. You will also be tasked with maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the store. This includes monitoring cash drawers, detecting signs of theft, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. You will prepare the register area at the beginning and end of your shift, inspect returned merchandise, and assist in managing online orders. Overall, your role as a Head Cashier will be vital in creating a positive shopping experience for customers while supporting the operational needs of the store.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Use a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds according to company guidelines.
  • Coach, develop, and provide feedback to associates in various departmental duties.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts by confirming functionality and stocking supplies.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and manage online orders.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store and assist customers who trigger alarms.
  • Maintain a safe and secure work environment by conducting daily safety reviews and noting hazards.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
