About the position

As a Part Time Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service while overseeing the self-checkout area. Your primary responsibility will be to assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers, ensuring they have a smooth and efficient shopping experience. You will proactively engage with customers, offering assistance and recommendations for products and services, while also maintaining a clean and organized checkout area. Your ability to multitask and communicate effectively will be essential as you interact with customers and support your team members throughout the day. In addition to customer service, you will be responsible for training and coaching other associates in their roles, ensuring they understand the various departmental duties and sales opportunities. You will also handle cash register operations, including processing sales transactions, returns, and refunds, while adhering to company guidelines. Your attention to detail will be vital as you monitor the cash drawers and assist in maintaining security within the store. You will also be involved in inventory management, preparing the register area at the beginning and end of your shift, inspecting returned merchandise, and ensuring that all stock is accurately accounted for. Your role will require you to maintain compliance with safety standards and housekeeping protocols, contributing to a safe and secure work environment for both customers and employees. Overall, your contributions will help create a positive shopping experience at Lowe's, encouraging customers to return for future visits.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Coach, develop, and provide feedback to associates in various departmental duties.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and ensure proper handling of customer orders.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas according to housekeeping standards.
  • Detect common signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management and/or Asset Protection.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts, confirming functionality of registers and stocking supplies.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
