About the position

As a Part Time Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and efficient checkout experience for our customers. This position requires a proactive approach to customer service, where you will monitor multiple self-checkout registers, assist customers with their transactions, and provide recommendations for products and services. You will be responsible for greeting customers, engaging with them, and ensuring that their needs are met while they navigate the checkout process. Your ability to move throughout the checkout area, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting will be essential in maintaining an organized and efficient environment. In addition to your customer service duties, you will also be responsible for training and coaching other associates in the front-end department. This includes providing feedback and support to ensure that all team members are equipped to deliver exceptional service. You will handle cash register operations, process sales transactions, and ensure that all monetary exchanges are accurate. Your role will also involve monitoring the safety and security of the store, detecting signs of theft, and maintaining compliance with safety standards. The Head Cashier position requires a commitment to cleanliness and organization within the store. You will prepare the register area at the beginning and end of your shift, inspect returned merchandise, and ensure that all supplies are stocked and ready for use. Your attention to detail will help maintain a safe and secure work environment, which includes conducting daily safety reviews and adhering to all safety requirements relevant to your duties. Overall, this role is vital in creating a positive shopping experience for our customers and supporting the overall operations of the store.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Coach, develop, and provide feedback to associates in the front-end department.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and ensure proper handling of customer orders.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas according to housekeeping standards.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate security risks to management.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts, ensuring functionality of registers and stocking supplies.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
