About the position

The Part Time Head Cashier position at Lowe's is a vital role within the Store Operations department, focusing on providing exceptional customer service and ensuring smooth checkout processes. This position requires the ability to assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers, proactively engaging with them to recommend products and services. The Head Cashier will be responsible for monitoring and identifying customers who need assistance, ensuring that all transactions are completed accurately and efficiently. This role involves moving throughout the checkout area, which includes standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and moving products to facilitate transactions. The Head Cashier will also express gratitude to customers for their business and encourage them to return to the store. In addition to customer service, the Head Cashier will execute Lowe's customer service policies and procedures, seeking out customers to understand their needs and assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise. This includes listening to customer inquiries and providing knowledgeable responses, as well as coaching and training associates in various departmental duties. The Head Cashier will operate cash registers to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, ensuring compliance with company guidelines. They will also supervise the CSA Front End Team, providing support and coaching as needed. The role includes responsibilities related to instock management, such as preparing the register area at the beginning and end of shifts, inspecting returned merchandise, and managing customer orders. The Head Cashier will also play a key role in maintaining a clean and safe store environment, monitoring cash levels, detecting signs of theft, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. This position is accountable for additional duties as assigned, making it a dynamic and essential role within the Lowe's team.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions, guiding them through the store as needed.
  • Coach, develop, and provide feedback to associates on departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Supervise and support the CSA Front End Team, providing coaching and assistance as needed.
  • Prepare the register area by confirming functionality of registers and stocking supplies at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and manage customer orders and returns.
  • Monitor cash levels in drawers and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management or Asset Protection.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
