About the position

The Part Time Head Cashier position at Lowe's is a vital role within the Store Operations department, primarily focused on providing exceptional customer service and ensuring smooth checkout processes. This position requires a proactive approach to customer engagement, where the Head Cashier will monitor multiple self-checkout registers, assisting customers as needed and recommending products and services. The role involves a significant amount of movement throughout the checkout area, including standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting, to facilitate accurate transaction completion and enhance the customer experience. In addition to customer service responsibilities, the Head Cashier will be responsible for training and coaching other associates, ensuring they are equipped to provide SMART customer service. This includes answering questions, demonstrating products, and assisting customers with their needs. The Head Cashier will also handle cash register operations, including processing sales transactions, returns, and refunds, while maintaining compliance with company guidelines. The role requires vigilance in monitoring for security risks, ensuring a clean and safe store environment, and adhering to safety protocols. The Head Cashier will also be involved in instock duties, preparing the register area for shifts, inspecting returned merchandise, and managing online orders. This position is essential for maintaining the overall efficiency of the store's operations and ensuring customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of retail experience, customer service skills, and the ability to lead and support a team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions, guiding them through the store as needed.
  • Coach, develop, and provide feedback to associates on departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Supervise and support the CSA Front End Team, providing coaching and assistance as needed.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts, ensuring functionality and stocking supplies.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and manage customer orders and receipts.
  • Monitor cash levels in drawers and ensure compliance with safety and security protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas, adhering to housekeeping standards.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
