About the position

The position involves assisting customers at self-checkout registers, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring a clean and safe store environment. The individual will be responsible for monitoring multiple self-checkout registers, proactively engaging with customers, and recommending products and services. This role requires the ability to move throughout the checkout area, standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and moving products to ensure accurate transaction completion. The employee will greet customers, assist them with their needs, and thank them for their business, inviting them back to shop at Lowe's. In terms of customer service, the employee will provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and demonstrating products, and responding knowledgeably to inquiries. The employee will also coach and train associates in various departmental duties and sales opportunities, ensuring a high level of service is maintained. The role also includes responsibilities related to in-stock management, such as preparing the register area, inspecting returned merchandise, and processing customer orders. The employee will monitor cash levels in drawers, ensure compliance with safety standards, and maintain a clean and organized store environment. Additionally, the employee will be accountable for other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of the store operations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and identify customers needing assistance at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Approach and interact with customers to recommend products and services appropriately.
  • Greet, assist, and engage with multiple customers on multiple registers at the same time.
  • Move throughout the checkout area to ensure accurate completion of transactions.
  • Provide SMART customer service through the execution of Lowe's policies and procedures.
  • Seek out customers to understand their needs and assist in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and/or loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably and promptly to customer and employee questions.
  • Coach, develop, provide feedback, and train associates in departmental duties or sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and support to the CSA Front End Team.
  • Remove security tags, verify product information, and bag merchandise for customers.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct calls or take messages as needed.
  • Open additional registers to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Assist in line vesting to help quicker turnaround time for checkout.
  • Prepare the register area by confirming functionality of registers and stocking supplies.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and process customer orders.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store and assist customers or associates who trigger alarms.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management or Asset Protection.
  • Ensure compliance with housekeeping standards to maintain cleanliness and organization of the store.
  • Maintain a safe and secure work environment by conducting daily safety reviews and noting hazards.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Must be able to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
