About the position

The position involves working as a Customer Service Associate at Lowe's, primarily focusing on assisting customers at the self-checkout area and providing exceptional customer service throughout the store. Associates are expected to greet customers, assist them with transactions, and ensure a smooth checkout experience by moving throughout the checkout area, which includes standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting products as necessary. In addition to self-checkout responsibilities, the role includes providing SMART customer service by adhering to Lowe's customer service policies and procedures. This involves seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise, and responding knowledgeably to inquiries. Associates are also responsible for coaching and training other team members, processing sales transactions accurately, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the store. The position requires vigilance in monitoring for security risks and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Overall, this role is crucial in creating a positive shopping experience for customers while supporting the operational efficiency of the store. Associates will also be held accountable for other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team and the store.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and identify customers needing assistance at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Approach and interact with customers to recommend products and services appropriately.
  • Proactively greet, assist, and engage with multiple customers on multiple registers at the same time.
  • Move throughout the checkout area to ensure accurate completion of transactions.
  • Provide SMART customer service through the execution of Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and/or loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably and promptly to customer and employee questions.
  • Coach, develop, provide feedback, and train associates in departmental duties or sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and ensure proper handling of customer orders.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
